…quick & easy hairstyles

adults-1853851_1920.jpgAs a teacher my hair needs to be up everyday to avoid nits so I have a bank of hairstyles I alternate between that take me under 5 minutes and last all day.

Classic Pony – using a Scunci Silicone Elastic a high or low pony can last all day with great volume, switch between a parting and brushed back parting for a completely different look

Side Pony – having a side pony can look so effortlessly chic, use a invisibobble if you don’t want a line left in your hair

Tucked Pony – take a low pony, split the hair above the band in half and poke your ponytail back on itself through the hole for a feminine twist

French/Dutch Plait – either one or two can look gorgeous and swap it up with plaiting to the very ends or just half way with loose ends

Side Plait – a fishtail or regular plait matches any outfit, remember to pull and loosen it out so it’s not too tight

…with facial SPF

I’m always looking for an amazing facial SPF to protect from UV rays, prevent aging and not effect any makeup that I apply over the top. My top picks are:

Avene Anti-Rougeurs Cream – £14.50

SPF20 – very thick and heavy (difficult to sink in) but instantly tones down redness with the green tint.

Simple Protecting Cream – £3.45

SPF30 – very light, not very hydrating. Gives you a whiter finish but a bargain. Like the pump too.

Body Shop Skin Defence – £16.00

SPF50 – very light, smells amazing and easy to sink into skin. Exellent base for make-up. My fave!

…with hauls & first impressions

Yesterday I had a little beauty splurge in Boots. Here is what I bought and my first impressions.

Remescar Silicone Scar Stick £19.99

I have acne scarring all over my back and chest – it is very light but I am so self conscious about it! So far it’s only the sun that makes the colour even out. I’ve tried Garnier Dark Spot Corrector to no avail. First Impressions: This stick is so tiny! You roll the stick like lipstick and dab onto any scars. It feels soft, leaves no sticky residue and fingers crossed the silicone will help the scar heal. We will see!

Remescar Silicone Scar Stick - 5.4g

Remescar Eye Bags £29.95

This product is for my fiance who has tiny dark indents in the inner corner of each eye. He has the thinnest skin! First Impressions: WOW! What a wonder product. A rice size squirt of this orange tube and in under two minutes the indents had disappeared and the darkness had lightened. Where I had gone over normal skin the product had gone tight, wrinkly and white so be careful where you apply. I’m yet to find out whether the results are temporary or permanent?

Remescar Eye Bags and Dark Circles - 8ml

L’Oreal Hydra Genius £6.95

L'Oreal Paris Hydra Genius Liquid Care Combination Skin 70ml

Saw this new product and had to try it. I’m so into watery light feeling hydration. Neutrogena’s wasn’t amazing so I was excited to try this. First Impressions: Silky feel, absorbs beautifully. Thirst quenching. Will keep trying.

Maybelline 24H Setting Spray £6.99

I’m intrigued by setting spray. As someone with oily skin who doesn’t wear foundation my makeup slips and slides all over the place. However for a great price this offers all day staying power. First Impressions: Feels funny squirting all over makeup and with a powerful head I’m not too sure it make a difference and I sprayed twice yesterday? We will see…

Maybelline Superstay 24h Setting Spray

One Heck of a Blot £12

Again another quest to tackle my oily skin. After hearing so much about this powder I’ve decided to abandon my Rimmel Stay Matte and try this. First Impressions: It feels very chalky and looks very light. The container is secure and it comes with a mirror compact and a pad. I applied twice yesterday and I feel the pad reduced the oil more than the powder. Will apply with a brush and update.

Soap & Glory One Heck Of A Blot Powder

…with the best face masks

I have oily, acne-prone skin with blackheads and large pores. Sounds awful right? Well with a weekly face mask I can keep all manners of evil at bay. And I’m not talking about sheet masks that do absolutely nothing! Also, remember to always steam your face in the shower to maximise face mask potential. Here’s a few that actually make a visible difference:

FOR MOISTURE

For £1 this packet has two faces worth of product which is creamy, soft and nourishing.

Montagne Jeunesse 7th Heaven Creamy Coconut Mud Mask

FOR SATISFACTION

This stuff is thick and heavy-duty. Skin looks noticeably different when you peel. Tip: Make edges thick or they won’t peel.

JORGOBE SKIN CARE Black Peel Off Mask

FOR CLEAR SKIN

GLAMGLOW Supermud Mask 50g

GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD MASK really is as amazing as everybody makes out. But for an eighth (!) of the price L’Oreal Paris Pure Clay Purity Face Mask is identical! Beautiful to apply with a gorgeous smell, you can see your oily pores being suctioned before your very eyes. Blackheads gone!! Tip: Less is more! It actually works better with less!

…with cheap online shopping

I am shopping addict. I admit it. I LOVE buying things but I also LOVE saving money. How can you do both I hear you ask? Well it is possible! Here are my top tips.

purse-1816568_1920Comparison

First things first is comparison. Always shop around to make sure you have the best deal. Use Google’s shop feature for easy comparison for items such as ‘black skirt’ or ‘red heels.’ Use the MySupermarket App for all beauty products, toiletries and food.

Vouchers

I only buy things online if I have a a voucher. I NEVER pay for delivery costs as they often can’t be refunded, so click and collect or find a voucher for free delivery. If there are no vouchers at that moment in time, I will wait until there is one. Of course check email newsletters for vouchers straight to your inbox but most of the time I find all of my voucher codes on Hot UK Deals or Vouchercloud. If you’re a student use NUS Extra, Unidays or Student Beans to unlock special student voucher codes.

Store Cards

Always take the time to register loyalty cards online so you can earn points on your shops online as well as in store. Remember Boots card, Nectar card, Tesco clubcard.

Topcashback

The best site in the world!! I make a £100 a year for doing absolutely nothing but buying what I would usually buy. Before I get to an online checkout I see if that particular store is listed on Topcashback. If they are: sign in, click the link from Topcashback back to your basket and then in a few weeks you will get an alert that you have recieved a payment through! You actually get paid to do your usual shopping!! There is also a similar site called Quidco but I prefer Topcashback for breadth of shops and ease of use.

…with daily haircare

I’m lucky to have long, natural, straight light brown hair that requires very little effort. With a few amazing products (and regular cuts) I have streamlined my hair care.

FullSizeRender.jpg

I wash my hair twice a week (in the evenings). During my teenage years I washed daily and it became so greasy! It has taken years to break this habit and see the results but I’m getting there. I’m yet to find a holy grail shampoo and conditioner combo but for now I double shampoo with Aussie Mega Shampoo and condition the lengths of my hair with Garnier Ultimate Blends The Strength Conditioner. I blow dry with Babyliss Pro Pink Passion hairdryer and straighten my fringe with my GHD’s. Then I add Schwarzkopf Essence Ultime Crystal Shine Finishing Oil to the damp ends which makes my hair smooth and silky. I used to swear by my Tangle Teezer but after trying The Wet Brush – it is EVEN better!

To lighten my hair in the summer once a month I will use John Frieda Sheer Blonde Go Blonder Lightening Spray – it’s so easy! Also my favourite leave in conditioner if I’m in a rush is Boots Sun Swim and Gym Leave In Conditioner. Above all of this is my favourite product of all time – Batiste Dry Shampoo Floral & Flirty Blush – I couldn’t live without it. What is your haircare holy grail?

…with everyday skincare

Oh, skincare. How I wish I could find the magic combination that makes all my worries disappear! For years I’ve trial and error’d, and unfortunately it’s only recently I’ve realised skincare is worth an investment if you want to see the results. Thought I’d let you know my current routine.

Morning

IMG_3885

First I cleanse with Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish to wake me up and gently exfoliate. I fell in love with this product when I first used it – it’s so gentle and yet works so well! Next I moisturise with L’Oreal Skin Perfection (so rich and creamy and apparently corrects your skin!) or now it’s sunny, Superdrug’s Clearly Youthful SPF 15 (very creamy and contains Salicylic Acid). I also love La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo but my skin is too dry these days. I find the only thing that truly clears up all my acne is the sun so I try to take a Vitamin D supplement every day to keep spots at bay.

Evening

IMG_3886.JPGI take my make-up off using Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish again or Elemis Nourishing Omega-Rich Cleansing Oil (luxury spa in a bottle!). I then use Dermalogica Clay Cleanser (really gets in deep) on my Clarisonic Mia (never noticed a miracle but fun to use). Following this, I use Pixi Skin Glow Tonic on a cotton pad, which really evens your skin. I use the Origins GinZing Eye Cream that everyone raves about, but TBH it’s no different to any other cheaper eye creams I’ve tried! On spots I switch between Clinique’s Anti Blemish Clearing Gel (for under-skin spots), pure tea tree oil (for juicy ones – TMI?!) or Sudocrem (for open sore spots).

I think I’ll do a separate post on face masks as I love them so much!
